I recently heard Michael Nyman’s The Promise/The Heart Asks Pleasure First. I’m interested in finding more music that sounds similar to it if anyone can point me in the right direction. I really like the flowing piano sound it has.

For modern day pianists you might like Yurima.
For the Romantic era (my favourite):
    Beethoven piano sonatas:
the most famous is of course Moonlight sonata, but listen to sonata Pathetique – the second movement is truly moving.
Chopin: nocturnes, mazourkas, impromptus and the Berceus.
Liszt – Liebestraum, Isolde’s death aria.
    Schubert: impromptus
    Schumann, Robert: three romances.
Clara Schumann – general piano works.
    Modern/impressionist:
    Debussy: clare de lune.
