No, its not weird. I know quite a few people that do the same things. Sometimes they make up there own lyrics to go with the music.

I have a lot of musically talented friends who love instrumentals, some like rapping over them other like the DJ’s like to scratch over the top of them.

Try learning an instrument of your own , its really fun to play another instrument over an instrumental.
I do it with guitar
Some people scratch with turntables
Some people just play harmonica over it
its alot of fun
