Roy Ayers. Vibe player, some of his songs do have lyrics, but usually just a chant or something.
Miles Davis - Kind of Blue
John Coltrane - Love supreme

If you're looking for energy, I would look at some more upbeat classical music, first to come to mind is "Canon in D Major" by Pachebel. "1812 Overture" by Tchaikovsky is a good, upbeat one too.
If you're looking for more modern stuff, maybe find some bluegrass/folk melodies. Those tend to be upbeat and have an acoustic guitarish sound to them.

I listen to music from the video game "The Longest Journey" quite often when I write. The music is available free for download. See the link. I like the longer pieces especially because they are very repetitive. Music that is too improvisational distracts me when I'm writing.
I also think the "Grizzly Man" soundtrack is excellent as well. It's available on iTunes.
